Dear Alumni and Friends,

I hope you all had enjoyable holidays and that prospects for your 2012 are looking bright.

As we make – and sometimes break – our new year’s resolutions, it’s encouraging to know that, like holiday rituals, many McGill traditions remain unchanged. This past fall, for example, the University and the Alumni Association once again hosted a successful Homecoming Weekend, an annual event that began 90 years ago.

Each year, several thousand graduates return to campus to get reacquainted with classmates and old friends at special anniversary activities. Through dozens of lectures, receptions and tours, they also find out what’s new in their faculties and departments. Deans, professors and students are always proud and happy to show off the latest classroom technology or share details of groundbreaking research.

Next year’s Homecoming dates are October 11 to 14, so if you graduated in a year ending in a 2 or 7, you may want to consider making a sentimental journey to revisit old campus haunts. If you’re not sure of your graduation year, contact the Alumni Association via email (info [dot] alumni [at] mcgill [dot] ca) or call 514-398-5000, toll-free 1-800-567-5175 to clarify.

Also in Fall 2012, we will be treated to a visit from Principal Heather Munroe-Blum, as part of a worldwide “Passport to the Future” tour. She will share some of the ways McGill’s campaign has had an impact on the University and the new opportunities that the support of alumni and friends have helped create.

And as usual, your branch will be offering an array of events that we hope will interest you. Remember, we’re always glad to hear from you with any suggestions for activities. Volunteers are the engines that keep our branches running, so if you have any time or expertise to offer, let us know. It doesn’t have to be a major time commitment; sometimes just having a few people to welcome guests at a single event is all we need.

Please check out the upcoming activities for alumni in the Boston area ...

I look forward to seeing you.

Sincerely,

Linda Lieberman, BSc'96
