We've come from far,

Oval Award Project Reaches Goal!

The Macdonald Class of ’68 has accomplished their goal of providing funds for 3 awards per year and thus the prime goal of giving back to the University. The class set out to raise $40,000 to provide 1 scholarship of $2,000 per year. We have now increased the value of the endowment fund to over $160,000 which will give 3 students per year the opportunity to receive upwards of $2,500 each.

Every year 1 student in Agriculture and Environmental Sciences as well as 1 student in Dietetics and Nutrition will be eligible. A third Oval Award will be given to the next best qualifying student in either discipline. Students who have completed either 2nd or 3rd year will be eligible.

The class executive wishes to thank each individual in the class who donated funds toward the Oval Award project.

Mac'68 Oval Award Winners: Raising the Bar

Members of the Class of 1968 continue to appreciate and benefit from their Macdonald education and remember “The Oval” as the centre of the campus during their years at the College as well as a symbol of the heritage and spirit of Macdonald.

After collecting $80,000, the Macdonald Class of 1968 created an awards program. The program is called the 1968 Oval Awards for Campus and Academic Activity. It was established in 2004 and currently its awards are presented to two students, one in the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and one in the School of Dietetics and Human Nutrition.

In addition to having high academic standings, the recipients must also have participated in student life and/or athletic activities in a manner that reflects both achievement and an appreciation of the value of student life on the Macdonald Campus. From 2004 to 2008 inclusive each student received $2000. The class continued to raise funds and, in 2009, each Oval Award was valued at $2500.

The Macdonald Degree Class of 1968 has been extremely successful in maintaining up-to-date lists of where classmates are located. Of the 152 students who graduated in Agriculture and Home Economics, there are only seven classified as “lost sheep."

Nineteen classmates have passed away over the years and are part of our honoured “In Memoriam” album maintained by nancykurz [at] aol [dot] com (Nancy (Chapin) Kurz). We also distribute an annual email newsletter that reaches 108 of 126 classmates throughout Canada and the United States, Europe , Australia , New Zealand , Africa , Singapore and the West Indies .

This page is dedicated to finding those classmates whom we have lost and honouring those that have passed on.
