McGill Daily 100th Anniversary

Calling all former McGill Daily Staffers (1911-2011)!

You are invited to attend a very important Staff Meeting, one that will never be repeated. The McGill Daily 100th Anniversary Reunion will be held in Montreal on October 14 and 15, 2011.

This is your chance to reconnect with former colleagues and reminisce about your days at McGill and the Daily.

We are tentatively planning a cocktail party in the Shatner (formerly Union) Building on Friday, October 14. On Saturday, October 15, we’re arranging a dinner at a downtown hotel, where everyone can enjoy good food, great company and special entertainment. Details to come.

The centennial reunion will be held during Homecoming Weekend, so the campus will be teeming with visitors and events – there'll be something for everyone.

Join the McGill Dailyites Facebook group to show your interest in the 100th and to see details as they become available. Registration for all events will be available this summer.

Book the dates now and make plans to join us!

Have you anything in common with the people in these photos >>

If you answered “yes”, then you’re right!

They’re the staff of the 1914 McGill Daily. And like you, they learned layout, wrote articles, took pictures, and made new friends while on the Daily.

This year, the McGill Daily is celebrating its 100th anniversary. As part of the celebrations, the reunion organizing committee has established this “Daily 100th” website. I encourage all former Dailyites to submit their Daily reminiscences, photos, artifacts, etc. Anything goes, all is acceptable, as long as it’s in (reasonably) good taste and not libelous.

I’ll be delving into my 60+ volume collection of Old McGill yearbooks and submitting interesting Daily-related photos (what else?) and anecdotes.

And don’t forget, the McGill Daily 100th Anniversary Dinner will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011. It’s time to catch up with old friends and be young(er) again. Let’s hear from you, and make this a celebration we and McGill will never forget. Spread the word, tell all your friends.

P.S. Do you have old photos from your time at the McGill Daily? Send them to kathy [dot] bowman [at] mcgill [dot] ca (subject line: McGill Daily photo) and we'll add them to our Flickr collection >>

Until then, here are some fun ways to get yourself back into a Daily headspace.
