Parents Tent

What you need to know

As a parent of a new McGill student, you probably want to learn as much as you can about the university your child has chosen. The McGill Parents Association is here to help and answer your questions. To make the process easier, the Association invites you to the McGill Parents Tent.

Schedule for 2014 - TBD

The place to start

Consider the Parents Tent your one-stop resource centre for everything McGill. Drop by with your concerns and questions. If we don't have the answers, we'll find them for you.

Moreover, at the Parents Tent you can:

  • Meet representatives from the Parents Association and chat with new or current McGill parents over light refreshments;
  • Inquire about on-campus services and resources available to your student;
  • Find out about other services such as banking (rbc_studentbanking_eng.pdf), credit cards, cellular telephone plans and insurance;
  • Pick up your McGill Parents Handbook as well as your Red Privilege Card, offering parents free admission to museums, activities such as library tours and lectures, and special discounts on campus for the duration of Parents Tent.

Activities offered in conjunction with Parents Tent are:

  • A special opening reception
  • Classes Without Quizzes (CWOQs)
  • Parent information sessions (coordinated by the First-Year Office)

Parent/Family Information Sessions
Arrival at McGill is a big event — not just for students, but for parents of new students as well.  As a result, we invite parents / family members to attend one of the four Parent/Family Information Sessions where the Executive Director, Services for Students, will discuss topics of interest to parents and address parent concerns in an informal setting.  You will learn about the support services that exist for McGill students and get tips on how your role from home can help us support our students.  Representatives from the First-Year Office (Campus Life & Engagement), International Student Services, Health Services and the Parents Association as well as other McGill service units will also be in attendance to answer questions.  These sessions will be followed by the ABCs of Money Management/Facts about Fees! session.

ABCs of Money Management / Facts about Fees!
In this short 45 minute presentation, representatives from Scholarships & Student Aid and Student Accounts will cover e-billing, guest access, billing dates, and the Minerva menus related to fees, as well as answer any questions you might have.

REGISTRATION: For Parent/Family Info Sessions and/or ABCs & Facts about Fees!, please complete the registration form http://www.mcgill.ca/firstyear/parents
