The McGill Alumni Association considers students and their families to be an important part of the McGill community. The Alumni Association is therefore pleased to offer a wide array of programs and events for new and returning students, including:
Some of these programs are greatly improved by parent participation and attendance. Here is a brief description of what they are and how you can get involved in them:
These special receptions are held in several dozen cities and towns around the world. Their purpose is to welcome new students to McGill before they leave home and provide an opportunity to meet other incoming students. Parents are invited to come along as they can also benefit from this occasion to ask questions about McGill to those who have experienced it first-hand.
Parents of returning students are also invited to participate in these events and contribute their experience and wisdom for the benefit of new parents. They join recent graduates and current students who are on hand to answer questions about their first-year experience, living in residence, managing academic course loads and enjoying Montreal.

This program sees McGill Alumni Association staff, alumni and parent volunteers distributing complimentary coffee, water, snacks, highlighters and pens – along with words of encouragement – to students at popular study spots on campus during exam periods in December and April.
