McGill Food and Dining Services offer and administer two types of student meal plans: Mandatory Residential and Non-Mandatory, both of which are based on a declining balance similar to a debit card system. The plans operate by deducting the cost of each meal from the studentâ€™s balance, which is electronically incorporated into their student ID card for convenience.
A mandatory meal plan is applicable to all students residing in the following residences: Carrefour Sherbrooke, Douglas Hall, Gardner Hall, Molson Hall, McConnell Hall, New Residence Hall, Royal Victoria College, University Hall and Presbyterian College. Three meal plan options are available to students living in these halls.

Students who have been assigned to Solin Hall, following the hall assignment lottery, will automatically be enrolled in the Commuter Meal Plan. Should they wish to opt out of this meal plan, they need to choose the corresponding selection when confirming their room reservation online. Also, students living off campus or in residences where there is no meal plan offered can choose to purchase a Non-Mandatory Meal Plan to give themselves the flexibility of eating at any Food and Dining Services location where the Martlet Meal Plan is honored and not having to worry about carrying cash.
