Every year the Alumni Association recognizes those alumni and friends whose commitment has had a particularly significant impact on alumni life and on the University itself. Without the efforts of these volunteers, hundreds of events would never happen – everything from class reunions and receptions to student recruiting, fundraising evenings and Phonathons. These activities are a tremendous support to the University, and they foster a sense of pride in the McGill community.
The McGill Alumni Association has the privilege of recommending names of distinguished graduates to receive an honorary degree from the University. It has been suggested that "A candidate worthy of consideration for an honorary degree should have made an outstanding contribution in the field of his/her professional work and/or in the field of public service. It may be assumed that the candidates recommended by the McGill Alumni Association would also be expected to have made a special contribution to the work of the Association and to the prestige of the University."
